Paul agreed to everything, just to help Sonya and their baby. He donated blood and, convincing the doctors, was able to enter her room for a minute. The girl lay pale, but when she saw him, a light ignited in her eyes again.
— Forgive me, Sonya! Paul whispered, kneeling beside her bed. — I was such a fool. I love you more than life itself. Everything will be alright. I promise.
Paul placed his hand on her belly and, gently stroking it, whispered,
— My little one, it’s me, your dad. Your mom and I are waiting for you so much. We need you. Stay with us.
For the first time in a long time, Sonya felt she could breathe freely, and a sense of warmth and happiness filled her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep, knowing that everything would be alright now. Paul spent the entire night at the hospital, not closing his eyes, praying as best he could.
In the morning, the doctor touched his shoulder and said,
— Everything is fine; the danger has passed. Sonya will need to stay here a little longer, but there’s no more danger.
Paul was overjoyed and even arranged a private room for his beloved where she could recover peacefully. Every free minute he spent with her, giving massages, buying fruits and juices, and trying to make her feel better. Sonya couldn’t believe her happiness. Finally, she was surrounded by care and attention, and every day her condition improved.
Paul didn’t leave her side for a moment. Her morning sickness was a thing of the past, and she had an excellent appetite. Lyudmila Ivanovna cooked her borscht and steamed cutlets, trying to support her daughter during this difficult time.
Paul decided to move Sonya into his country home in Malibu, despite her objections. He believed that in an atmosphere of love and comfort, she would fully recover. Meanwhile, Lyudmila Ivanovna also received unexpected support from the Johnson family. Alex arranged for her to stay at an excellent wellness retreat in Miami and paid for a full course of treatment. For the first time in her life, the woman could afford a proper vacation, and it only did her good. Her health significantly improved, and she returned home full of strength and energy.
Now Lyudmila felt she could be truly useful to her daughter and grandchild.
Several weeks passed, and Sonya finally went for her last ultrasound, accompanied by Paul, full of excitement and joy. And then, the doctor, with a smile, delivered simply incredible news: they were having twins – a boy and a girl.
— How twins? Sonya exclaimed. — How is that possible? I had ultrasounds several times, and no one said anything like that to me.
— I saw everything! the doctor replied with a sly smile. — But I didn’t want to scare you in advance. Everything will be fine now, don’t worry.
Paul was absolutely thrilled with the news. He literally jumped for joy, hugging Sonya and promising that their happiness would now be doubled. Everyone at home was also amazed by such pleasant news.
The birth was not easy, but thanks to the care of the doctors, everything went well. Sonya gave life to two wonderful children, who were immediately placed on her chest. She couldn’t hold back tears of happiness, feeling her heart filled with immense joy.
When the doctor approached Sonya, he reminded her of his words.
— Do you remember? I said that once you became a mother, all your problems would suddenly seem insignificant. «It’s really true, isn’t it?»
— You are absolutely right, Doctor, Sonya only whispered. — Thank you for everything.
From then on, Sonya and Paul’s lives changed forever. Their family was now complete, surrounded by love and care. And ahead of them awaited only joyful and bright days, filled with children’s laughter and mutual support.
