Between the Blue and the Green: Unveiling the Untamed Nature of Cyprus

3. The Green Heart: The Troodos Mountains

Rising majestically in the center of the island is the Troodos massif, often called the «Green Heart of Cyprus.» This is a geologist’s paradise, home to the Troodos Ophiolite—one of the best-preserved fragments of oceanic crust on Earth, now sitting high above sea level. Here, the heat of the coast fades away. The slopes are covered in endemic Golden Oaks and Black Pines, some of which are centuries old. In winter, the highest peak, Mount Olympus (1,952 meters), is capped with snow, allowing for the unique experience of skiing on an island known for its sunshine.
